Brown, especially through the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, and the Data Science Initiative, has existing research strengths in the development and application of earth system models (ocean, atmosphere, sea ice, land, biosphere) from regional to global scales, with an focus on polar and coastal environments, as well as machine learning-based approaches to data analysis and modeling.
ECF will leverage these strengths to:
- Downscale trusted and reliable climate information to the community-scale
- Quantify climate impacts from global to local and map onto measures of resilience gaps
- Co-develop and evaluate community-scale and nation-scale climate scenarios
- Translate climate data and information for decision support
- Appraise salient and credible policy and governance alternatives
