Equitable Climate Futures

Climate Communication, Narratives and Public Engagement

Creating powerful narratives and combatting disinformation.

Brown, especially through IBES, the Cogut Institute, the Brown Arts Institute, and SPH’s Information Futures initiative, has existing research strengths in climate misinformation/disinformation, the environmental humanities, climate narratives and storytelling, and visual arts.

ECF will leverage these strengths to:

  • Envision climate futures through multidisciplinary collaborations, community and cross-department dialogues, exhibitions, screenings, and meetings between affected communities and Brown-based scientists, engineers, artists, writers, filmmakers, and historians
  • Develop compelling, evidence-based visual, sound, multimedia and artistic narratives about past, present, and future effects of climate change
  • Combat disinformation and climate denial by identifying key actors and strategies advancing climate disinformation
  • Provide environmental, racial, and multispecies justice approaches, images, and stories of resilience in the face of climate disaster
